The MacBook Pro 13in mid 2012, I know this is an 8-year-old laptop but with some choice upgrades, this can still handle the newest OS, macOS Catalina and can still run beside the newer models.
If you check eBay PH and Carousell, you can see a lot of people posting for this model and it’s cheap. Considering that Apple Products are the go-to tech gadgets to buy known for performance and premium elegant devices that it’s considered a status symbol owning an Apple product whether it be an iPhone 11 or an iMac or MacBook Pro 16in 2019 or Air, It’s no wonder that even older MacBooks especially this particular model has a good resale value.

If you consider the looks and form factor of this laptop it’s thicc, compared to today’s standards but it’s still light.
With a 2.5 GHz Core i5-3210M with 4GB of RAM with Intel HD 4000 graphics, this is a powerful budget laptop. Good for everyday use, for students and even content creators or if want to hang around coffee shops.
This is the first Apple laptop with USB 3.0 and Bluetooth 4.0 which is a huge boost in connectivity.
You can easily upgrade the RAM to 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3 but sources on the internet say it can go up to 16 GB but going above 8GB is not worth it considering the CPU and graphics of this laptop. Putting more RAM won’t make a bigger difference than sticking to 8GB of RAM.
You can also upgrade the storage from HDD to a 240 GB SSD you can also swap out the CD drive for a secondary SSD with a HDD caddy or for a more budget friendly extra storage upgrade try SD Card adapter for TF cards so it’s not sticking out of the SD Card slot but still have extra storage.
Battery replacement is cheap and since it’s easy to replace no need to buy an original battery if you’re really on a tight budget.
The chiclet keyboard is still the best compared to the newer models of the MacBook Pro with the butterfly keys but hopefully for the newer models 2019 up, Apple learned from their mistakes. Trackpad is awesome.
Biggest drawback here is the display compared to Retina models, though it’s clear and crisp it’s miles away comparing to a Retina display with the same specs also consider the cost of the replacement for Retina to non-Retina models.
